Our Educator Licensure and Renewal (ELAR) system will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. on April 25 until May 2 while we move data into the new ELAR system that will launch on May 2. Thank you for your patience.

Educators and Administrators

We are committed to achieving excellence in our schools by developing and supporting exceptional educators and administrators.

On this page, educators and prospective educators will find information about the different types of licensure and their requirements, how to get involved with DESE advisory groups, and how to nominate people for state and national educator awards.

In addition, educators and administrators can learn more about the Department's commitment to ensuring that all students have equal access to excellent teachers and principals, find data about their school and district and how it compares to others and to the state as a whole, and access research reports to inform state and local practices and planning.

Massachusetts is proud to be the home of many of the nation's finest educators, including our 2021 Teacher of the Year Jennifer Hedrington of Ferryway School in Malden.

Massachusetts educators directly inform state policy in a number of ways, such as participating in our Teacher and Principal Advisory Cabinets.
